Friday evening my husband came home from work, sat on the edge of the bed where I was sleeping and didn't say a word. He just sat there. I could feel something was wrong. I rolled over to see a tear running down his face. He looked at me and said "have you seen the news?" I replied with a no. He then proceeded to tell me about what happened earlier that day-
As most of you know by now the US has suffered yet another tragedy. ANOTHER school shooting. Actually another shooting. Now I have to ask...when are we going to start learning from this instead of feeding off this? Something has to be done now or it's just going to keep getting worse. I have always said that when something like this happens the media needs to talk about it for maybe a day then leave it alone. Instead they talk about it for weeks and weeks until everyone is to the point they either cant take it anymore or they are just comfortable hearing about it, instead of feeling sad and wanting to lend a hand like they wanted to the first 2 days of hearing about it.
I read a great little piece written by Morgan Freeman. I believe every word of it is true! I have been saying this since Columbine. ----
TURN OFF THE NEWS.......
Morgan Freeman's brilliant take on what happened yesterday :
"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.
It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed
people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.
CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.
Every bit of this is true. No one can name one person from any massacre...except the killer! What has our nation came to? Why do we have to feed on this??? Why cant we give this precious little children and their families the sympathy they deserve? Instead we have cameras in their face while at a prayer service!
disgusting! |
I am just out raged to see this picture! Come the fuck on!!! Who does this?! If the victims weren't so weak I'm sure they would have knocked everyone of them out. But they didn't simply because the grace of God got them through that moment.
Now I want to go a different direction here simply because I'm getting too angry thinking about this....Lets take a moment and really think about the VICTIMS not the killer...We could care less about that piece of shit!
This is Victoria. She died a hero. She hid her first graders in the cabinets and closets after hearing the gunfire. When the shooter came to her classroom, she told him that her students were in the gym. He then gunned her down and moved on. She saved the lives of all of her students.
First grade teacher Victoria Soto threw herself in front of the gunman’s bullets, sparing several of her students from death, according to several reports. |
4 seven-year-olds
16 six-year-olds, and
6 adults.
I cant help but just sit here and think what was going through those innocent little kids heads while this was going on. What they were thinking as they passed away, and wondering if they knew they were loved by not only their families but by the whole nation.
This has got to stop! Do I really need to teach my kids about what to do if some crazy decides to come in and start shooting??? Why should I have to poison their innocent little minds with this terror???
That is probably the last time any of those children were able to close their eyes. I cant imagine the nightmares those babies are having! As a parent what do you say when your child wakes up screaming because of what they just saw???
I ask that all of you please take a moment and think about this and what we can do as a nation to come together to end all of this, because on Christmas morning 20 little angels wont be able to open their presents.
Good job Megan.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Morgan Freeman's words are exactly how I feel. There was one news guy, forgive me as I forget his name, who spent the weekend just tweeting the names of the victims. That's the only news worth anything. If any action is to be taken, I hope it's to focus on mental illness and stop people from falling through the cracks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible tragedy this is for everyone concerned. How can our hearts not ache for those poor families?
ReplyDeleteI saw this Morgan Freeman quote as well, and couldn't agree more. Also, I know a lot of people are saying we need to sit down and talk to our kids about this kind of thing, but should we really have to live in a world where we tell 5 and 6 year olds to be careful because crazy people could murder them? Horrifying.
